Jumping Across the Gap - A Series of Atrial Extrastimuli

The "gap phenomenon" is an interesting phenomenon in electrophysiology arising from the differences in refractory periods at two or more levels of the atrioventricular (AV) conduction system. We present a patient with dual AV nodal physiology in whom the AH jump mediates the gap phenomenon. We also briefly discuss the other mechanisms of gap phenomenon that have been described in this setting.

Jumping the Gap: The Formation Conditions and Mass Function of “Pebble-Pile” Planetesimals

In a turbulent proto-planetary disk, dust grains undergo large density fluctuations and under the right circumstances, these grain overdensities can overcome shear, turbulent, and gas pressure support to collapse under self-gravity (forming a “pebble pile” planetesimal). Using a simple analytic model for the fluctuations predicted in simulations, we estimate the rate-of-formation and mass funct...

on the teacher-generated v.s. leaner-generated noticing-the-gap activities in language classes

abstract the purpose of this study is twofold: on the one hand, it is intended to see what kind of noticing-the –gap activity (teacher generated vs. learner generated) is more efficient in teaching l2 grammar in classroom language learning. on the other hand, it is an attempt to determine which approach of the noticing-the-gap- activity is more effective in the long- term retention of grammar...

Jumping and Non-Jumping Genes

The term ‘horizontal transfer (HT)’ refers to the transfer of genetic material between two reproductively isolated organisms. HT is thought to occur rarely in eukaryotes compared to vertical inheritance, the transmission of DNA from parent to offspring. In a recent study we have provided evidence that a family of DNA transposons, called SPACE INVADERS or SPIN, independently invaded horizontally...

Jumping over the fence

The nuclear envelope forms a cocoon that surrounds the cellular genome keeping it out of harm's way and can be utilized by the cell as a means of functionally regulating chromatin structure and gene expression. At the same time, this double-layered membrane system constitutes a formidable obstacle to the unimpeded flow of genetic information between the genome and the rest of the cell. The nucl...
